Be Water

We are walking once again

Here on the shore of Cannon Beach

You are family, you are friend

You are formless, you are free

You were the wave, you were the crash

You were the vapor, and you were the shattering glass

You were the lost, you were the found

You were asleep in the clouds

Deep in the shadows of night

Until the rain came down

Wading water we will stand

Finding the prisms in the deep

Reaching out I take your hand

There is no prison holding me

We are the wave, we are the crash

We are the vapor and we are the shattering glass

We are the lost, we are the found

We were asleep in the clouds

Deep in the shadows of night

Until the rain came down

Follow Phoenix

Whisper, wake from your sleeping

Desert, begging for rain

Feathers, folded and flaking

Firebird, calling your name

Together, we will be leaving

Never, talons in chains

Untethered, not long for the keeping

Freebird, flying to Spain

Follow Phoenix, lanterns of light

Sharing secret worlds in the sky

Strike all the matches, wings open wide

Up from the ashes, forever alive

Suffered, now you are seeking

Rider, sweet winds of change

Warrior, no longer weeping

Riser, show me the way

Follow Phoenix, lanterns of light

Sharing secret worlds in the sky

Strike all the matches, wings open wide

Up from the ashes, forever alive

Church

Churchcover.JPG
00:00 / 03:22

I just loved to watch you

Talking with the Lord

Amazing grace and freedom

Carved upon the board

You weren't sitting in a building

You were standing on your feet

I know that's how I found you

The same fruit on the tree

We’d go out in the mornings

Looking for the keys

See the flood before us

And get down on our knees

'Cause every day was Sunday

With water on the floor

We’d show up to the service

And swim right through the door

Because we found out together

We could battle any weather

By dancing on the waves

To keep from going under

From tsunamis and the thunder

We'd stay in church all day

That day I almost lost you

Tide was pretty grey

The force of all that ocean

Carried us away

Went down to the silence

Buried in the rain

But came back to the surface

I heard you call my name

Because we found out together

We could battle any weather

By dancing on the waves

To keep from going under

From tsunamis and the thunder

We'd stay in church all day

The Forge

You and I were hard as iron

When we laid down upon the fire

I held you close as we combined

We were broken and refined

Heat won't break us up

It just melts us down

It has made us one

Don't ask me how

I just know that I'll forever be a part of you

I guess that's just what the forge can do

The shaping pain of every strike

Hammer fell and sparks were brought to life

You know I hate to see you cry

Love is waiting on the other side

Heat won't break us up

It just melts us down

It has made us one

Don't ask me how

I just know that I'll forever be a part of you

I guess that's just what the forge can do

With the River

Mountain and River
00:00 / 04:16

On and on you've been running with the river

Seeking out the silver of the bell

It's the song that made a clean believer

Following the leader to the key of every well

Though all that water's moving on

All you want is anything but gone

Just try and catch your breath

To keep yourself from sinking like a stone

The River's always there to lead you home

All along it's been cutting like a compass

Showing you a difference, east and west

Right or wrong, you've been fighting Mount Olympus

Impossible and endless, you know you need some rest

Though all that water's moving on

All you want is anything but gone

Just try and catch your breath

To keep yourself from sinking like a stone

The River's always there to lead you home

How deep does it go

How far does it flow

You're bound to lose control

But that's the only way you'll ever know

Though all that water's moving on

All you want is anything but gone

Just try and catch your breath

To keep yourself from sinking like a stone

The River's always there to lead you home

Feed the Beast

You hear a lonely howl up in the hills

Afraid to know but something calls you still

A hungry sound of growling in the cave

This skinny dog is anything but tame

You can count his ribs like one two three

A snarl says he's still got lots of teeth

The tail between his legs shows some shame

But eyes of fire says he's still in the game

Hungry mongrel, just needs a little meat

So much potential, so go and feed the beast

It'll take some time to gain some weight

His trust is broken so it's hard to take

He might bite the hands that reach out in the rain

But all that blood will show him you're the same

Hungry mongrel, just needs a little meat

So much potential, so go and feed the beast

If he starves he'll strike before he dies

Sure to do some damage before goodbye

But with some time you'll change the end

Yeah you'll be best of friends

Hungry mongrel, just needs a little meat

So much potential, so go and feed the beast

Missing the Boat

IMG_8404.jpg
00:00 / 04:00

Look at her go, off in the distance

Waving goodbye to me

This sorry sailor, feels like a failure

Standing on a dock on the sea

I'll never know what broke the Buick

Maybe it was needing some grease

Well whatever the reason, the rest of my season

Is different now than it would have been

Even so, I'm missing the boat

I’m just wishing it could come back 'round

But that ol' toad in my throat

Is keeping me from making a sound

All that smoke in my scope

Is hundreds of miles away by now

If that's the way and it's all changed

Then that’s the only thing I can do today

I won’t pretend I ain't missing the laughter

All the things I still want to see

Missing the islands, the sails and the smiling

Living an American Dream

It’s not the end, I'll go look at the charter

What if it was all meant to be

I still got my knapsack, I'll get me a flapjack

And come back at a quarter to three

If there was storm, I'd still be in there

And what of the war? Maybe I wouldn't be setting this course

Maybe there's so much more

More than I knew before

Even so, I'm missing the boat

I’m just wishing it could come back 'round

But that ol' toad that's in my throat

Is trying to keep me from making a sound

All that smoke that's in my scope

Feels like hundreds of miles away by now

But that's the way, yeah it's all changed

So that’s the only thing I can do today

Through the Woods

Racing through the autumn leaves

Clicking heels to bulls and beagles fetching

Songs from shadows of the pines

Katydids and crickets gave their blessing

You were always next to me

Adding to our buckets of collections

Had so much to leave behind

To cross the river's flow in four directions

That day we made a deal

To bag our feet and grab our hoods

For raising cain against the grain as best as we both could

The forest led to fields

Just like we knew they would

The only way to come to something good

Is running through the woods

Peaks in clearings in the trees

To take a break beneath the starry blanket

Reminding us to get some sleep

But not before we took some time to thank it

That day we made a deal

To bag our feet and grab our hoods

For raising cain against the grain as best as we both could

The forest led to fields

Just like we knew they would

The only way to come to something good

Is running through the woods

We bruised our bones on sticks and stones

We stubbed our toes and burned our home

But we both know these thunder roads

Are thorns that grow beneath the rose

That day we made a deal

To bag our feet and grab our hoods

For raising cain against the grain as best as we both could

The forest led to fields

Just like we knew they would

The only way to come to something good

Is running through the woods

The Head of the Spear

Grandpa Gene.jpg
00:00 / 03:01

We've got the orders to cross a border

To build a road through foreign land

And there's a lot of brush that grew

There's engineering to persevering

Because it might take fifty years

But we've got to see it through

If we try to carry on alone

We will surely lose against the stone

But everyone here is close to the clear

The head of the spear is heaving a hoe

Into the great unknown

A lack of vision or indecision

One straw's all it takes

Attacks that snap the shaft in half

Pick up the pieces, come to Jesus

We can build from what we break

Relax on back in all those hands

If we try to carry on alone

We will surely lose against the stone

But everyone here is close to the clear

The head of the spear is heaving a hoe

Into the great unknown
